How to Fix Limited Cable Internet Connection Issue?
Problem: I am using an ASUS laptop that has just been upgraded from windows 8 to Windows 10 Technical Preview. I plugged my ethernet cord in. It recognized the network, but it refuses to accept that it gives internet. It reports the status as limited, even though this was the same working internet connection I used only hours ago. I can however connect to the WIFI internet connection provided my the same router. What am I supposed to do?
Solution: This error means the PC has successfully connected to the router, but the PC wasn't assigned a valid IP address, so you can't actually get to the Internet. It can also indicate that a valid IP address was assigned but that the PC doesn't have Internet connectivity.
You may refer to the following suggestions and check if they fix the issue.
Method 1: Run Network troubleshooter.
Type Troubleshooting without quotes in the search box and hit enter.
Select View all from the left panel.
Select Network Adapter troubleshooter and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Method 2: Update the Ethernet adapter drivers and check if that helps.
Press Windows key + R, type devmgmt.msc in the run prompt.
Expand the Network adapters section, right-click the Ethernet adapter, click Update driver software. Also visit the manufacturer website and download the latest drivers through Wireless network.
If that does not fix the issue, uninstall the drivers and restart the computer.
Go to device manager, right click on Ethernet adapter, and select Uninstall.
Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.
Method 3: Try resetting TCP/IP and check if it works.
Open command prompt, right click in the left corner when the Start window appear and select command prompt (admin).
At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:
netsh int ip reset c:
esetlog.txt
Note: If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Reboot the computer.
